I am a qualified professional with a unique mix of creative and technical skills.
I work on projects that are ethically sound and useful to people and are a combination of Art and Science. I enjoy taking on different roles and I typically direct and lead teams of skilled contractors to deliver my work.
I hold Bachelors degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science and a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering (Robotics).
I have a particular interest, but no qualifications, in cognitive science, non-linear systems, linguistics, rap and Hindi music, Russian literature, distance running and slow-cooked goat curry. Download my CV.
I design and develop computer software using many different technologies: Adobe Flash/Flex/AS3, Microsoft .NET/SQL Server, PHP/MySQL, C/C++, HTML5/CSS3/Javascript. I create applications that are technically complex but simple to use.
My own active research program explores new ways of using computers and web, in particular user interfaces for low literacy users and three-dimensional user interfaces.

I write fiction and non-fiction including professional copy. A sample of some of my writing is available on http://www.theverandah.net, including this article about the misdiagnosis of our unborn son with skeletal dysplasia.
Apart from my native English, I speak, read and write Bengali, German, Spanish, Hindi and Mandarin Chinese with varying levels of ability.
I read anything and everything, but I will never forget the first time I read The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot.
I am male lead singer and a songwriter for The Bombay Royale, a ten-piece ensemble that plays funk music inspired by old Bollywood cinema; we regularly perform at music festivals and other venues around Australia and other places. I can play basic tabla and guitar.
I also love singing acappella, and I am an alumnus of the University of Delaware YChromes. When I get old[er], I may or may not join a barbershop quartet.
